Getting Started

Common Ground is open to everyone, whether they have an established practice or have never meditated before. We offer open meditation sessions on a drop-in basis for anyone wishing to practice silent sitting or walking meditation.

Our weekly practice groups are a good place to see what Common Ground is like. Drop in any Wednesday and Sunday evenings or Sunday morning (see our calendar for scheduled times). These groups start with a half hour guided meditation, followed by a dharma talk and discussion. If you have children, check out the Sunday Morning Children’s Practice, Pre-Teen Practice, and Teen Practice programs.

Those new to meditation may want to consider registering for the Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation course.

Common Ground Policy on Fragrances and Scents

Common Ground Meditation Center is committed to making our space as accessible as possible to everyone who chooses to come here to practice. The center is home to people who are very sensitive to chemicals, including fragrances, both synthetic and “natural”. Most of our participants at the center try to avoid deliberately wearing products such as perfume, hairspray, essential oils, lotions, etc. that are strongly scented. However, many are unaware that the chemical scents in laundry detergent and fabric softeners can be particularly problematic for those sensitive to them. Fortunately, unscented products , including laundry detergents, are now readily available at the Natural Food stores as well at the big chain stores.

Your efforts in this matter can considerably reduce the suffering of our chemically sensitive practitioners and may make the difference whether some can attend programs at the center. You may also be contributing to your own better health and the the goal of a less polluted world. Thank you for your efforts.
