Race-The Power of an Illusion

As you may have heard, 29 Common Ground leaders recently started a 10-week antiracism circle at the center. Every week we’ll share a reading from the antiracism circle, which we’ll also put in a binder in the lobby. This week we talked about the concept of race, its scientific invalidity, and how racism has been an integral part of this country’s history since its inception. This short summary from PBS debunks several common misconceptions about race. Understanding race as a social construction rather than a scientific reality is an important foundation to antiracism work.
