Two Dharma Poems
These two poems were read on Sunday night. Thanks to Rick and Megan for sharing!
Untitled Poem
by Rick Carlson
Open the heart.
There is treasure buried here:
Love beyond belief!
Earth and sky are one –
just like you and I.
A great, wild love –
joins us together.
Let us be this love.
Like wind in the trees –
blowing where it will.
Beannacht / Blessing
by John O’Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom
On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.
And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.”
Thanks for printing the poem, glad people have a chance to read it. Mark’s recent talks on Love inspired me to share these words with him, then he read the poem at the talk last Sunday. I’ve studied with Mark since 1996 and have been blessed by his teachings over the years, the transmission continues to get clearer and more direct. Thanks Mark, thanks Common Ground sangha.
What a beautiful poem! I had to read it out-loud the second time to appreciate it to the fullest. Thank you for taking the time to share it.
