Weekly Email 10-3-23

Dear Common Ground Friends,
I’m away teaching a retreat in the mountains near Big Bear California through the weekend with a small group of yogis and also with the big redwoods and turkey vultures too. It has been powerful to practice with the 4 elements: earth, air, fire, and water and to feel the healing power of noticing each element both in the natural world as well as in this human body. Our human bodies are not that different from the elements in the natural world, the sturdiness of bone like the sturdiness of trees, the movement of wind, like the movement of breath, the rain like tears, and the warmth of the sun like the heat of emotions. In moments, the body can feel more like nature than something that is mine. What a gift it can be to drop the habit of personalizing that which belong to nature and feel the interconnectedness of life.

Wishing us moments of wonder and peace as we practice in the natural world and realize that everything belongs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Spring Maintenance Day!
October 28, 9:30am – 12:45pm
Join us for a morning of fixing, cleaning and maintenance at the city center. We will end with a meal together.

Please contact Robin Major, at robin@commongroundmeditation.org if you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities:

  • Audio Editing: For talks uploaded to dharmaseed. The audio editing is easy to learn, no previous experience required. 1-2 hours per week, or every other.
  • Graphic design: One or two graphic designers to support the buildout for a new website. Experience with mobile-friendly graphic design preferred.
  • Bell ringing: For a community member who is interested in training to be a practice leader at one of the morning in-person silent sits.
  • Tree trimming: A community member with skill and experience trimming trees; for a tree at the city center.
