Dear Common Ground Friends,

Like it or not we live in a relational world. There is no way to avoid being in relationship with others and even ourselves. And, as we begin to investigate, we realize that many of our relationships are created and sustained based on mostly unexamined habits and views. Awakening and freedom require us to find ways to be in circles of relating and mutual caring that free the heart from the oppressiveness of fear, greed, and self centered views. Initially, we may not have a clue of what this might look like, but we simply begin by exploring. At Common Ground, we created a non-profit organization as a place to do this exploring. The practical operation of the center is based on the circle of dana or generosity– freely giving and freely receiving. The invitation is for each of us to find a way of relating to the center that creates a beautiful circle of giving and receiving that is enlivening and supports greater freedom and goodness in our lives. No one can tell us the right way to do this. Please reach out to the center if you have any questions, or go to the website: Supporting the Center.

Robin Major, Common Ground’s Office Manager has listed below several volunteer opportunities to support the community. Please take a look and check out if any of these feel right for you. If you have any questions, contact Robin at robin@commongroundmeditation.org.

Current Volunteer Needs
Please contact Robin Major at robin@commongroundmeditation.org if you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities:

  • Children’s Program: We are looking for a volunteer or two to help lead the reforming of Common Ground’s children’s group. If you are interested, have been practicing for awhile, and have skill in youth work, please send a letter of interest to Robin.
  • Audio Editing: We are looking for a couple more volunteers to help the Audio Editing team to help edit and upload dharma talks to Common Ground’s dharmaseed page. No prior audio editing experience needed.
  • Trailer need: We’re in need of a means to haul a 20ft. steel beam to Common Ground Retreat Center the week of July 11th. It’s only about 250 lbs but quite long. Let us know if you have a long enough trailer we could borrow (16ft. is ideal but maybe 12ft. would work).
  • Truck need: We are looking for a vehicle to transport two donated armchairs to Common Ground Retreat Center in Western WI. If you are planning to head out to the Retreat Center this summer and would be interested in transporting the chairs, please let us know.

The Practice of Generosity

Continuing in the tradition of Buddhist monasteries in Southeast Asia, all programs at Common Ground are offered free of charge in the spirit of generosity. This offering is possible because of the generosity of people like you—from the Buddha on down to all the people in our community—who contribute their practice, time, and financial resources to support the continuation of the center.

To learn how to support the center and our teachers, visit this page. Let us know if you have any questions.

Weekly Tejaniya

Past is past. It’s over, it’s finished. Past
feeling, past thought, past sensation. They
don’t exist now; they’re gone. Now is always
new—new feeling, new mind, new object,
new sensation, new thinking. Everything
is new all the time—new, new, new.
Nothing is old.
