In-Person Programs

Dear Friends,
After careful consideration, Common Ground has decided that in addition to requiring that all participants wear masks at both the city center and at Common Ground Retreat Center in Prairie Farm, WI, we are also now requiring that all participants be fully vaccinated before attending programs at either location. The CDC recommends vaccination as the best way of protecting ourselves and others in our wider communities from Covid-19. The CDC also recommends  mask-wearing, even for vaccinated people, in counties that have high virus transmission rates. At this time, this includes Hennepin County and all of the metro counties near Minneapolis and St. Paul.

As leaders, our intention is to take responsibility for this beloved community in the best way we can. Our decision to require vaccination aligns with the Buddha’s (and our) commitment to non harming and an understanding of interdependence. Our decisions will not please everyone. We understand this. Our ever evolving Covid-19 policies however are our real time efforts to live a life of non harming given the conditions as they are which includes current infection and vaccine rates as well as your feedback. We offer these guidelines as an imperfect response to a challenging situation with humility and an ever deepening commitment to our collective well being. As we have been over the course of the pandemic, we will continue to revisit our policies as conditions change.

Here is the current schedule of public in-person programs:

Silent Open Meditation 

Monday-Saturday, 7:30-8:30am,
Sundays 8:30-9:30am,
Wednesdays, 11:00am-12:00pm, &
Tuesdays from 7:30-9:00pm

Community Tea and Dharma 

Every Tuesday, 8:00-9:00am

Everybody is welcome to join in for this community time with tea and Dharma discussion. While Mark Nunberg is away on retreat and teaching in November and December, the group will be peer-led by Mark Mirick and Joan Stockinger. Everyone is encouraged to join in for the 7:30 – 8 a.m. portion of the morning sit. We will move to the community room at 8 am for this community discussion time.

Sunday morning in-person option
We have started opening up the meditation hall on Sunday mornings for community members to gather to watch the 10:30am Sunday Weekly Practice Group livestream together on a screen. There will be a program host there to facilitate conversation for those who wish to stay afterwards.

New Bike Rack in Basement of CG
If you’d feel more comfortable locking your bike up in the basement, that is now an option! We have a chain affixed to two columns in the room under the Community Room; feel free to lock your bike there during programs. You can bring your bike down the back stairwell to access the room. If the back door is locked, ask a program host to help you unlock it.

Using Fragrance-Free Products
Some members of our community are very sensitive to chemicals, including fragrances, both synthetic and natural. Please refrain from using scented products. Thank you!
