Amma Thanasanti

Guest Teacher

Amma Thanasanti has practiced meditation for over 45 years and has been teaching since 1989, leading intensive meditation retreats since 1996. She spent 26 years as a Theravada Buddhist nun, including 20 years in Ajahn Chah monasteries. Her teachers have included Dipa Ma and Ajahn Chah.

She is the founder and spiritual director of Awakening Truth and created the Integrated Meditation Program (IMP), which supports practitioners where meditation alone no longer feels like enough — helping transform attachment and relational patterns so practice and daily life become more embodied, integrated, and alive. She also developed the SHINE meditation practice, which helps practitioners cultivate positive states as a foundation for resilience — not as a bypass of difficulty, but as a resource for meeting it.

Thanasanti has taught across five continents and is committed to making dharma practice genuinely healing — not only illuminating. Her teaching draws on early Buddhist texts, embodied practice, and direct insight, shaped by a lifetime of both monastic formation and sustained engagement with the wounds that contemplative practice alone cannot always reach. She is currently writing a book on anger from a trauma-informed Buddhist perspective.
