Lovingkindness Programs

The Buddha taught that developing goodwill and related states is supremely beneficial and supportive of our practice. These states are called the brahmavihārās (divine abodes):

  • Lovingkindness (metta) - a basic sense of goodwill toward others; wishing them well.
  • Compassion - caring for others' pain and wishing for it to end.
  • Empathetic joy - appreciating others' joy and wishing for it to continue.
  • Equanimity - the balanced heart that comes from recognizing our limited role in others' well-being.

We offer two monthly programs and a yearly residential retreat (usually in the summer) on the theme of the brahmavihārās. See the schedule on the right for dates.
