Bedding and Linens
- Bath towel and washcloth.
- Clean, non-musty bedding to fit a twin bed: one sheet and a sleeping bag or two sheets. (Please bring a sheet to put on top of the mattress pad even if you are using a sleeping bag.)
- A blanket, pillow, and pillowcase. The retreat center has some linens and pillows available for folks who are flying in or if it is not convenient to bring your own.
- Please do not bring or use perfumes or scented shampoos, ointments, or lotions. Because meditation retreat practice can lead to a heightened sense of awareness, some participants may develop a sensitivity to odors and perfumes, and some are allergic to many chemicals. We have unscented soap at the sinks, but please bring only unscented shampoo and soap for showering.
- Toothbrush and toothpaste.
- Personal toiletries (unscented).
Indoor Clothing
- Warm sweater/fleece.
- Blanket for lap or shoulders during meditation.
- Loose-fitting, comfortable clothing (no nylon or other noisy fabrics). Summers can be hot and modest lightweight clothing is the norm, including shorts.
Outdoor Gear and Clothing
- Some of the Mindful Service Jobs may be in the woods, garden, or involve mowing or shoveling. Please bring long-sleeve work clothes, outerwear, and footwear appropriate to the season. Trails may be muddy at times.
- Flashlight (we have some available as well).
- Sturdy walking shoes and/or boots.
- Rain or snow gear so you can enjoy the fields, woods, and quiet roads all times of the year.
- Warm coat.
- Umbrella and/or sunhat.
- Insect repellent and sunscreen (please wash off when indoors.) We have some onsite.
Other Items to Consider
- Water bottle.
- Comfortable, clean indoor shoes (encouraged in the kitchen)
- A small watch or clock with alarm (there will be a morning wake-up bell at 6:00am).
- Electronic device with earbuds/headphones to listen to Dharma talks.
- Meditation cushion/pad. There are some zafus, zabutons and other meditation supports on site. Bring your own if you wish.

- Scented products, including incense and essential oils (Some community members have severe sensitivities, so please wash off any scented products, including sunscreen and insect repellent when indoors.).
- Animals.
- Smoking.
- Alcohol or other intoxicants.
- Candles.
